A solid volume on the Baha'i faith. I really enjoyed it from a Baha'i Perspective. The but thing I didn't similar about the volume is that he doesn't mention anything about the Bab or Baha'u'llah such as leading raids or existent reason they were in prison. Got through about 1/iii. A lot of history, not a lot of teaching of what his beliefs were.
When I began this book (loaner from a friend), I admit my eyes rolled dorsum in my head. For the historical parts, Bowers adopts a storytelling style that'south a bit...over the top. He is more interested in telling a story than in providing a historical business relationship—in true religious form, he includes the apocrypha. But I am not sold on the bad guys, who seem to have terribly flimsy motives. And I am interested in the historicity of the characters. Baha'u'llah has kids, a wife, and plain only i of them wrote anything? Surely the others were as educated, if non imbued with divine authority? What did they have to say? That is one of the unique things nearly this detail religion founder: he is absolutely prolific. All the important figures are extremely literate. Even Azal (our bad guy) fights with a believer by taking turns writing angry books. Pure academics, a trend which patently continues to this mean solar day. 'Abdu'l-Baha, as a direct event of non being God, is mostly more than comprehensible than his male parent. Just Baha'u'llah has been translated in thees and thous, which gives the impression that someone is trying to endow this religion with an antiquity it doesn't have. Or perchance it just reflects Baha'u'llah's flair for the dramatic, which he definitely has.
This is a bully introduction, and a genuinely inspirational book. There were so many spiritually valuable ideas, new religious language, and new approaches that brand the weight of tradition easier to bear. I take renewed appetite for the good life. I have fresh perspective and curiosity. All I wanted was some background info, and I got that too. Highly recommended.

This seems a fine introduction to the Baha'i faith. I'm not sure my opinion counts for much, as this is the first volume I have read on the subject. It always presents something of a quandary whether first to read a book from somebody within the faith or an outsider's view. I liked that fact that the book quoted extensively from the major figures of Baha'i. I am sympathetic to Bahá'u'lláh, and he obviously was a very wise man, but I didn't find the constant assertions on the part of the author tha This seems a fine introduction to the Baha'i religion. I am sympathetic to Bahá'u'lláh, and he patently was a very wise human, but I didn't find the abiding assertions on the office of the author that he introduced unique religious teachings very convincing. Baha'i merely seems like Islam two.0 to me. (Not that there'southward anything wrong with that!) I practise discover information technology interesting that at practically the same time Christianity 2.0 was being introduced a half a world away past another cocky proclaimed prophet named Joseph Smith. ...more than

Why haven't more people heard about this? It'due south... compelling. The book itself is naught special. It'due south a competent presentation, though it would be more helpful if there weren't such gigantic blocks of quotations from historical/literary/scriptural sources.
